The Be Good to People® Story
The idea for Be Good to People® was inspired by an unkind encounter with a stranger that our founder had back in the spring of 2008 while running errands during her lunch break. The details of the experience have long since been forgotten, however the idea that people need to be better to one another has not.
Once back in the office she asked with exasperation, “Why can't people just be good to people?” As soon as the words left her mouth she was inspired to put “Be good to people.” on a t-shirt and send a message to the world. She expected to feel better by putting her feelings out there - what she didn’t expect was the encouraging response she got back from the message. People who saw it emphatically agreed and wanted to know how they could spread the idea too.
Be Good To People, the brand and the mission, was born.
Giving back has always been at the root of Be Good to People. Since day one, 2% of every BGTP merchandise purchase goes to our 501(c)3 Be Good to People Foundation to support our work in communities and to build our kindness education programs.
